As a network audio product, HEOS was designed to be controlled by the HEOS app and other network control devices. Therefore, it needs to have a permanent network connection. In situations, the device is not used and nothing is played back, all HEOS components enter theQuick Start modeafter 20 minutes of inactivity for power saving reasons. This can be noticed by a dimmed Front LED of the HEOS unit.

Setting up your first HEOS AVR. Once you have placed your HEOS AVR in your listening room and have downloaded the HEOS app, you are ready to configure your HEOS AVR for music playback. This involves following a few simple steps to get the HEOS AVR connected to your existing home network.

1. Control the basic functions of your Denon product with power, volume, input and settings. Have direct access to Quick Select and Surround Modes. Network browsing is either done within the Denon 2016 AVR Remote app or depending on model by selecting HEOS network as input which opens the HEOS app automatically.

Note:
If the HEOS device is connected to your network using a network cable, you may switch off the Wi-Fi of the HEOS unit for additional power saving in Quick Start Mode. You can find this option in Settings > My Devices > (Select the device name) > Advanced > Wireless Power Saving. Select On here and do not forget to press Save Settings afterwards. If you get the popup Settings saved, then you can be sure it was applied.

In case, you do not want this unit to be visible in the app or another network controller, you can switch it into theDeep Standby modeby a longer press (at least 3 seconds) on theMUTEbutton of the speaker. The LED of the speaker, Amp, Link, HomeCinema or Bar is then switched off and you can only wake up the device by a short press on off the three buttons.

HEOS AVR andHEOS Barcanbe set into Deep Standby pressing the power button on the remote control for at least 3 seconds. After releasing the button on the remote, it may take approx. 6 to 15 seconds until the LED turns off and the unit switches into Deep Standby. Pressing the power button on the remote again wakes up the AVR or Bar.

In Deep Standby, the power consumption will be approx. 0.1 watts.

Note:
The Deep Standby mode is also activated if the unit is not connected to any network / Bluetooth or AUX device for more than 60 minutes after QuickStart was enabled.

How can I create a share in the HEOS app to access music from my network source?

With the release of the latest HEOS App, you will now see a new option in the HEOS App called “Network Shares”.

Network Shares will allow the user to access music files (including iTunes music) from a PC, Apple Mac or NAS making the music files accessible from the HEOS App.
To make this feature work, you will need to setup your HEOS device using the HEOS App and also setup your computer to allow access to the music on your PC. (Windows or Mac).
Computer / NAS Setup

• You can share a whole drive if you want but typically you will not want to. You will want to share the top level folder that includes all your music but nothing more. For iTunes that will be something like user/music/itunes/itunes media/music
• HEOS can index up to about 40.000 tracks and folders (underneath that folder 'music' you shared)
• You will need to change the folder sharing settings to allow the users access to the music files on your computer from the HEOS App.

• For NAS you need to follow the instructions by the NAS manufacturer to share - that might be automatic in some cases and you'll just need to know what the drive is called on the network and log into it

HEOS Device setup

• You need to add the share to one of the HEOS devices on your network, where it (The share) will be configured.
• To configure the share, you will need to know the name of the folder you want to share, the path to the folder’s location, your PC user name and password. With the exception of your PC’s password, all this information could be easily retrieved from your computer.

• After configuration, the folder in your PC and its content become available on the HEOS App in Music > Music Servers.
• You can add 300 songs max to the queue even though HEOS can browse tens of thousands of tracks.
