I am currently reading a book with maps in it on my Kindle Keyboard, and I can’t really tell what it is; of course, if I was not out of town again and had my Kindle DX that might make it easier but work with me for a few minutes. I needed to find a way to be able to see the map while reading on an e-Ink Kindle. So, I started looking for a way to do it on the Internet and Amazon Kindle discussion boards and didn’t realize the answer was literally right under my nose the whole time. I should have looked at the latest user manual. Duh, but I’m a guy – we don’t ask for directions, never look at the user manual, and we leave the seat up at night.
Assuming you are trying to see an image on an e-Ink Kindle, here is how I was able to zoom in on image using my Kindle Keyboard (you can do the same for PDF documents):
- How to Zoom With Kindle Step 1. Turn on your Amazon Kindle by pressing the 'Power' button on the device. Use the main menu to select an 'e-book' from your Kindle's internal hard drive that you want to read. Press down the 'scroll' button. This will cause an on-screen menu to appear.
- Zoom1 = the page as it looks at a level 3 size on my Kindle. Zoom2 = when I scroll to the image and click, a 'zoom' choice is available in the menu. Zoom3 and zoom3a = a larger rotated image appears. Attached Thumbnails. Last edited by daffy4u; at 02:14 PM.

To zoom in on an image:
- Position the cursor over the picture using the 5-way controller. You’ll see a magnifying glass icon appear.
- Press the 5-way controller to zoom the image.
- Press the 5-way controller to return to your content.
When your Kindle increases the image size, your view may change from portrait (up and down) or landscape (left and right) if necessary to maximize the use of the display.
To zoom in on a PDF document:
- Press the Text key which is the one that has a capital letter “A” as well as a small letter “a” right next to it as one button.
- Select the zoom percentage from the available options.
- Position the zoom box over the section you’d like to view using the 5-way controller and press to select.
You’ll see scroll bars appear at the edges of the page indicating what section you’re viewing. Use the 5-way controller to move across the page and view different sections. To return to the previous view, press the Text key and select “fit-to-screen.”
