I have a new problem with Photoshop and I wonder if you could help resolve it as I am still using CS5. Just upgraded my iMac 27 to OS to Yosemite version 10.10. Then working in Lightroom 4.4 I tried to send a photo to Photoshop CS5 for further processing. Message came back saying I needed to download and install Jave ForOSX2014.001. Mac users who have installed OS X Yosemite (10.10) have complained about compatibility issues with Adobe’s popular photo editing program Photoshop CS5. That leads to discussions among creatives including whether they should install Mac OS X considering much of their workload depends on Adobe’s Creative Cloud apps including Photoshop.
Adobe replies that all of its Creative Cloud applications are compatible with Yosemite. However, Apple added in its help note that “as with any new release of an operating system, there could be unexpected issues that arise that were not discovered during testing.”
How to Make Adobe Photoshop Work with Mac OS X Yosemite:
Step #1: What Apple says
Apple states that none of its Creative Cloud applications need updates to be compatible with Mac OSX. That includes Photoshop CC 2015, Illustrator CC 2014, After Effects 2014, Premier Pro 2014, InDesign and others. Adobe also tested Phooshop CC (14.2.1) and CS6 (13.0.6 and 13.1.2) and found no compatibility issues.
Apple does go on to say it has improved security with its new “V2 code signing,” which makes sure the application came from the developer and was not altered, infected with a virus or damaged. Some applications signed with the older V1 code may lead to a warning stating “<Adobe application> can’t be opened because the identity of the developer cannot be confirmed.”
Another Adobe help site refers to a similar note saying the application has not been signed by a recognized distributor “and may damage your computer.” It refers to the Gatekeeper security mechanism added to OS X Mountain Lion that prevents applications from unknown sources being installed without users’ knowledge. All new software must be signed with a Developer ID provided by Apple, and Adobe has been working with Apple to sign all future applications including CS6 products. Here’s the catch.
“However,” the note states, “older products released before this new feature (for example, all CS5 and CS5.5 products) have not been signed.”
Here’s two options given by Apple.
#1. Temporarily bypass Gatekeeper

- Right click (CTRL-Click) on the application/installer.
- Click on open from the context menu.
- Click Open in the warning dialog that pops up.
#2. Disable Gatekeeper
- Choose System Preferences in the Apple menu.
- Click Security & Privacy.
- Look under the General tab for Allow Applications Downloaded from, and select Anywhere.
- Close the System Preferences window.
- Try to install or launch the application.
If the application installs or works correctly, go back to System Preferences and turn Gatekeeper back on. Gatekeeper helps lower the risk of your system acquiring harmful malware.

Step #2: Install Java

There is one other step that you may need to do. That is to download and install Java, which no longer comes with OS X. You can download Java for OS X 2015-001 from an Apple support help site. Close all Java applications including web browsers and Adobe applications before downloading and installing the file.
There have been reports saying an error message pops up saying “To open Adobe Photoshop CS5 you need to install the legacy Java SE6 runtime.” Clicking the message leads to what appears to be a broken web page without an apparent download link. The above link is the correct link.

It’s suggested that you open the web page with the link in Firefox or Chromeinstead of the Safari web browser. Once you download the file, click the dropdown menu and choose “Show in Finder” then drag and drop the file onto your desktop.
When the folder opens, double-click on the JavaForOSX.pkg file. You will see an installation guide pop up. Click continue, read an informational page that pops up, and click Continue again. You will have to click Continue again after reading the Software License Agreement. Once you get through these steps and click Agree, you will have the option of clicking Install and entering your password. Once the file is installed, your computer will show you the message “the Installation was successful.”
These steps will hopefully help you find solutions that allow you to run Photoshop CS5 on the new Mac OS X Yosemite operating system. If it still does not work, consider contacting Adobe to search for more solutions.
