Webex Meeting Desktop App

This document will highlight the steps needed for installing Webex Meetings successfully on both Windows OS and Mac OS.

Note: If your computer is owned by UW-Madison, please contact your local IT support for help with installing Webex Meetings. The software may be installed and used on personal machines, but should not be redistributed without permission.

The Cisco Webex Meetings desktop app allows you to access your most commonly used Webex Meetings site controls all in one place. You can use the Webex Meetings desktop app to easily view your upcoming meetings, start and join your meetings, and connect to a video device. WBS39.6 and Later. WBS39.5.x and Earlier. Webex by Cisco is the leading enterprise solution for video conferencing, online meetings, screen share, and webinars. Web conferencing, cloud calling, and equipment.

1. Navigate to the Campus Software Library or Cisco Webex Meetings site to acquire the Webex Meetings Desktop App for Windows OS installation file
1. The Campus Software Library download is modified for our University instance of the tool
2. The Cisco Webex Meetings site download is not modified for our University instance of the tool
2. Navigate to where the downloaded file was placed and double click the file
3. Select 'Next'
   
4. Accept the license agreement for installation and select 'Next'
   
5. Select 'Install'
   
1. If you are not an administrator on your machine, you will be prompted to enter administrator credentials after performing this step
   
6. After installation has occurred, select 'Finish'
   
7. The computer will now have Webex Meetings Desktop App installed. This will not need to be repeated for other users of the machine

1. Search for 'Webex Meetings' from the start menu and run the application
2. The application will open with a window prompting for the site URL. This should already be populated with 'uwmadison.webex.com'. If it is not populated with this value, please enter it in as 'https://uwmadison.webex.com'
   
3. Enter in your primary email address and select 'Next'

4. Enter your NetID and password. Select 'Login'
5. Webex Meetings Desktop App will now be ready for you to use

1. Navigate to the Campus Software Library or Cisco Webex Meetings site to acquire the Webex Meetings Desktop App for Mac OS installation file
2. Navigate to where the downloaded file was placed and double click the file
3. A drive will appear on your desktop named 'Cisco Webex Meetings.pkg'. Double click the drive and then double click the file named 'Cisco Webex Meetings.pkg' inside
   
4. Select 'Continue'
   
5. Select 'Continue'
   
6. Select 'Continue' (if you need the install to perform a different type of installation (such as a single user), this is where it would be performed)
   
7. Select 'Install'
   
1. You will be prompted to enter administrator credentials after performing this step
   
8. After installation has occurred, select 'Close'
   
9. The computer will now have Webex Meetings Desktop App installed. This will not need to be repeated for other users of the machine

1. Search for 'Webex Meetings' form the search bar and run the application
2. The application will open with a window prompting for the site URL. If an option for 'uwmadison.webex.com' is not already available, manually enter in the value of 'https://uwmadison.webex.com'. If the option is available, select the option and then select 'Next'
   
3. Enter in your primary email address and select 'Next'

4. Enter your NetID and password. Select 'Login'
5. Webex Meetings Desktop App will now be read for you to use

Join Your Meeting

When you receive an email invitation to a Webex meeting, event or training session, it looks something like this.

If you're using Linux or ChromeOS, the web app opens directly after you click Join meeting.

When joining from Windows or Mac, a new browser window opens, prompting you to launch the desktop app. But if you're having trouble, you can join from your browser.

Alternatively, you can sign in to your Webex site and join your meeting from there:

• Go to the Meetings tab on the left navigation panel. There, you can see a list of your meetings. Find the one you want to join.

• Sign in to your Webex site, enter the host or meeting name, Personal Room ID, or meeting number in the Search bar at the top.

Then, select the drop-down arrow on the right side of the Join Meeting button and choose Use web app.

You can join the meeting as a guest or, if you have an account, you can sign in.

• if you just want to join a meeting quickly without signing in.

• if you don't mind waiting in the lobby until the host admits you.

• if you don't need access to the full list of meeting features.

Sign in:

• if you have more meetings later. The next time you join a meeting, you'll join automatically as a fully authenticated user.

• if you don't want to wait in the lobby. You join the meeting right away.

• if you need access to the full list of meeting features.

Connect to Audio and Start Your Video

You can easily connect your audio and video in the preview window before you join a meeting, event, or training session. That way, you can make sure that everything sounds and looks good. Make sure to grant your browser permission to access your camera and microphone when prompted so you can be seen and heard in the meeting.

The Webex Meetings web app is easy to navigate, with shared content or video in the center and meeting controls underneath. You can chat with people, share your screen, and see who else is in the meeting, among other things.
